Boy: I think we’re perfect for each other.
Girl: But how do you know?
Boy: Because I’ve never been happier in my life.
Girl: But how do you know there isn’t someone out there who’ll make you even happier?
Boy: If I was any happier, I’d throw up.

This was a conversation that Melvin and I had in 2005. I must’ve thought it was important because I transcribed it to my Xanga blog as a private entry on January 11th, 2005.

Three things pop out at me from this five year old snippet of dialogue:

1. Melvin is and always has been the visionary one in our relationship. Thank God for that, since I’m the type of person that needs constant proof, convincing and supporting data to back up big statements or conclusions like two people’s perfection for each other.
2. The second song we danced to at our wedding (after we performed our pop-and-lock to Chris Brown :) was Geoff Moore’s version of “God Bless the Broken Road” — and this conversation shows a glimpse of how broken, fearful and full of doubt I was as a 22 year old. I’ve had my share of bad experiences but I don’t regret the broken parts of my past anymore, instead we both accept where we came from and continue to live happily and constructively in the present.
3. Our present-day humor often involves the expulsion of bodily materials but I didn’t realize that we were like that since the beginning. Ha ha.
